Digital STEAM. Teaching integrated science, arts and mathematics with digital devices course focuses on pedagogical use of tablets in STEAM lessons, both in-class, science museum and outdoors settings. Besides the pre-school, primary, secondary, vocational, adult, special needs teachers, we also welcome other users of tablets interested in the course’s focus on didactical use of all digital devices in class. Some of the main topics of the course cover: apps covering different content and activities to support learning, communication and self-assessment, best practice approaches and practical examples for using mobile devices in lessons and education, responsible and safe use of digital devices and new media, creating interactive materials for classroom use, designing, planning and writing sample units of work or lesson plans that deploy the digital devices and more.

The added value of the course is that the course offers app search/store possibilities, experience in the tablet/apps use exchange, innovation in methods and approaches while using the m-devices, and implementation of them into daily activities in teaching and learning. Additionally, the course ‘Digital STEAM: Integrated teaching of Mathematics, Science and Arts with digital tools’ offers participation in an experience exchange on EU level.

Target group are the school management, teachers, special needs teachers and all other non-teaching experts and staff working in school education, adult education and VET.


The course covers a wide range of topics that schools need to consider and tackle when introducing/updating and securing digitalization in their school:

  • Apps covering different content and activities to support learning, communication and self-assessment (collaborative writing, digital photography, video, audio usability, presentation apps, assessment, evaluation, gamefication, etc.)
  • Best practice approaches and practical examples for using iPads and other tablets, or other mobile devices in lessons and education in general in different countries,
  • Responsible and safe use of digital devices and new media
  • Creating interactive materials for classroom use and deliver them to students
  • Identifying and reviewing practical tablet and other digital applications for educators, news and media applications useful for educators and their students (creating text, video clips, podcasts, presentations, screencasting, images, pdf files, e-books, mind and concept maps, maps etc.)
  • Designing, planning and writing sample units of work or lesson plans that deploy the iPad and other tablets, or other digital devices
  • Integrate strategies and digital technologies effectively into a curriculum
  • Utilise different mobile devices in connection with TV and other display devices


The course methodology aspires creating an output. Working individually or in groups on a concrete product to be used in your own school. Participants are given time to develop these outputs and the trainers coach and support them throughout the week, if necessary even long after courses have finished as a follow up.




Earn a certificate


The course participants will get a Certificate of Active Attendance.

The competences acquired will be validated by the course organisers on the Europass mobility.

After working as a mathematics & physics teacher and school principal, he has been involved in teacher education and educational technology research for last 20 years. Mart has been contributing to international research projects focusing on the use of mobile technology and social software in teaching and learning. He is coordinating the training of school teams in the project “Digital Turn towards 1:1 Computing” funded by Samsung (www.samsungdigipoore.ee); and expert in school digital innovation and change. 




Jüri Kurvits


  • PhD candidate 
  •  Lecturer of didactics of mathematics in Tallinn University, Head of the innovative STEM teacher education curriculum. 


He is active promoter of flipped classroom, Google Apps for Education, active learning methods and discovery learning with tablets in STEM lessons. Jüri has been conducting science and mathematics teacher education courses all over Estonia and also in Russia

Aare Baumer, MSc

  •   Head of research and development in the science museum Energia Avastuskeskus (www.energiakeskus.ee) in Tallinn, Estonia.  


Aare Baumer is a sparkling and inspiring performer, one of the best promoters of science education in Estonia. He has designed more than 20 interactive shows and exhibitions in the science museum, including “Virtual planetarium”, “Discover electricity!”, “Turn me into a Robot!”, “Discover the Sea of Bubbles!”, “Discover the Island of Energy!”. He is the pioneer of science theatre in Estonia, his engaging onstage science shows are visited by thousands of pupils every year.
